As if we didn’t have enough reasons to love Janelle Monáe, Netflix has just launched a new show, titled Sex, Explained, in which the singer provides narration.
Sex, Explained covers all aspects of sex, from biology to attraction to sexual orientation to birth control. Though heterosexual sex remains the primary focus, the show does delve into the nature of same-sex attraction, and the complexities that shape sexual orientation. The show also discusses evolutionary biology, and how sex hormones have changed in humans over time.
Monáe herself has never shied away from sexuality in her work. Her song “Pynk” dealt with feminist issues and sexual fluidity. In her personal life, the singer came out as queer in 2018, calling herself “someone who has been in relationships with both men and women – I consider myself to be a free-ass motherf*cker.” Last year, reports linked her romantically to both Black Panther stars Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong’o, though Monáe has never confirmed as much in public.
Frankly, we love listening to Monáe on any occasion, especially talking about all things sexual. Sex, Explained streams on Netflix.
